When you're managing care for hundreds of people, the last thing you should have to worry about is your technology. It needs to just work.
At Birdie, we know platform reliability matters. As a product gets bigger and more complex, keeping everything running smoothly is a constant challenge. That's why we've spent the past few months making major improvements to strengthen our platform.
In our latest "Under the Microscope" video from the Smarter Care Lab, Cat Morris (Product Manager at Birdie) walks through what platform reliability actually means, and how we're building a platform that's strong, fast, and ready to grow with you.
What does platform reliability mean for you?
Platform reliability means Birdie is always available when you need it. You can trust the system to be there even on your busiest days, so you don't have to worry about the platform letting you down.
Behind the scenes, we focus on three key areas to make this happen: making sure Birdie can handle growing activity, making your everyday work faster, and testing more rigorously before anything goes live.
1. Making sure Birdie can handle growing activity
Think of Birdie like a motorway. As we serve more agencies (more clients, more carers, more visits), we need more lanes to handle the traffic.
We've added 50% more headroom to our platform. This means that the main routes (like data storage and visit planning) now have more lanes to handle heavier traffic. Whether you're managing 200 visits a day or growing to 500, Birdie stays fast, stable, and secure, no matter the scale.
But having extra lanes isn't enough. We need to actively manage the traffic. That's why we've built monitoring tools so our team can see the system's health in real time. We spot potential issues and fix them before they cause delays for you.
2. Making your everyday work faster
Every action you take, from loading a roster to checking a medication list, should be instant. We're constantly making these processes faster, so your information appears the moment you need it.
For instance, we've focused on making tasks and medications lists quicker to load. We also delivered loading speeds up to four times faster for large rosters, with more improvements to come with our Upgraded Rostering. All these performance improvements add up to more time for what matters: outstanding care.
3. Testing more rigorously before anything goes live
This is about making sure issues don't reach you in the first place.
Before we release any new feature, we test it in a replica of our live platform. We actually call it the 'Birdieverse'. Using AI to simulate real-world scenarios, we make sure every new service is safely built and checked before we release it. We test for worst-case scenarios and understand the impact of any change before it reaches you.
And if it doesn't work properly? We don't release it. We fix it first. And the Birdieverse allows us to do that way faster.
What does this mean for you? Fewer bugs. Fewer disruptions. Quality features delivered faster.
Building a platform you can rely on
Platform reliability isn't just about fixing problems. It's about making sure you never have to worry about your technology keeping up with you.
That's why we've made these improvements: more room so you can scale, faster performance so you can work efficiently, and better testing so new features work from day one. As your business grows, Birdie will be there (strong, fast, and ready to grow with you).
